THIS SECTION MAY BE COMPLETED BY ANY JURY MEMBER
Comments on rule questions, new interpretations, problems, unpopular Rule 62 (Redress) decisions, summary of the facts, conclusions and decisions of Rule 69 (Allegations of Gross Misconduct) actions, problems with Sailing Instructions or Notice of Race and experience with experimental procedures.
After the 200 nautical mile offshore race from Subic to Boracay, the OA replaced the PRO with a member of the jury for the Boracay Inshore races. The Jury was then asked to obtain a replacement member at short notice. As this was not possible, Steven Hatch IJ AUS an International Judge was asked to standby to join hearings by Zoom. During the event, for 2 days, the winds were rated as gale force at 50knots and the sea, very rough resulting in races being cancelled out of an abundance of caution. Thankfully, on the final day the winds calmed down for 2 inshore races. During the non racing days, the jury had a variety of mock hearings involving contentious redress, a rule 69 hearing, and a non binding hearing of an incident at a previous event of the signature series between two boats in a non typical downwind race start. The jury members were brought up to date with the new 2025-28 rules lecture by Ewan McEwan IJ GBR at the request of the Jury Chair.
